The Disaster Distress Helpline invites you to share your stories of hope, strength and recovery after a disaster in our new initiative, “Strength After: Disaster Survivor and Responder Stories of Hope and Recovery.” Our goal is to collect stories from survivors of and responders to natural disasters like hurricanes, floods, wildfires and earthquakes, as well as human-caused disasters such as environmental incidents and acts of mass violence.
Your story may be featured on this website, in order to help others as they move forward on their path of recovery.
Strengthafterdisaster.org wants every survivor or responder to feel empowered and safe to share their personal recovery experiences from disaster. In order to ensure our contributors feel good about sharing a personal narrative on our website, we encourage you to visit the following link to Strategic Story Telling from the National Mass Violence Victimization Resource Center. The NMVVRC offers helpful tips for anyone who has experienced a disaster to consider when to share and how much to disclose, as well as the benefits and risks of sharing your story.
If you are currently experiencing distress or feel that you are in crisis in any way, please contact the Disaster Distress Helpline 24/7 by calling 1-800-985-5990 / text “TalkWithUs” to 66746.
